- You started singing at a very young age, what inspired you to sing?I started at 4 years old doing advertising jingles for different brands, for me it was like a game. My parents and my brother are also artists and at home we have always been surrounded by music and art. I think I was born singing!

- Empezaste a cantar muy pequeña, ¿qué te inspiró a cantar?Empecé a los 4 años haciendo jingles publicitarios para distintas marcas, para mí era como un juego. Mis padres y mi hermano también son artistas y en casa siempre hemos estado rodeados de música y de arte. ¡Creo que nací cantando!

- Tell us about your career as a singer and actress.I still remember!!! It all started because my father is a musician and he was called for the audition of the Musical Annie. I wanted to accompany him and in those years 70s/80s, there were not many children who dedicated themselves to the world of acting and music. They began to cast lots of girls from all over Spain for the distribution of the Musical. After long singing, dancing and acting tests, I was chosen to play the role of "Annie", so when i was 10 years-old, I had my first musical experience and that was then that I started my professional career seriously. One year later, the movie starring Aileen Quinn in the main role came out, they took me to Barcelona to dub her, both for the speaking and singing voice... my career as a voice actress also started there. It was a wonderful experience.

- Cuéntanos tu trayectoria como cantante y actriz.¡¡¡Aún me acuerdo!!! Todo empezó porque mi padre es músico y le llamaron para la audición del Musical Annie. Yo quise acompañarle y en aquellos años 70/80 no había muchos niños que se dedicaran al mundo de la interpretación y de la música. Empezaron a hacer castings a un montón de niñas de toda España para el reparto del Musical. Tras largas pruebas de canto, baile y de interpretación, me eligieron a mí para hacer el papel de “Annie”, así que a los 10 años tuve mi primera experiencia en musicales y fue cuando empezó seriamente mi carrera profesional. Un año después salió la película protagonizada por Aileen Quinn, me llevaron a Barcelona para doblarla, tanto en la voz hablada como en las canciones… allí empezó también mi carrera como actriz de doblaje. Fue una experiencia maravillosa.

- In 2010, you were chosen to dub Rapunzel's voice in Tangled. How did the audition go?It all started because I was already dedicating myself to dubbing, but I was typecast as a singer, in fact I have starred in many roles as such. One great day, they called me to do an audition for which I had no idea what it was about, but they were doing several tests on many people.
They were looking for a new voice to act and sing, they put me in the distribution of possible candidates for the dubbing casting because I could already sing. And they chose me. I couldn't believe it!!! Imagine the audition, I was like a leaf, but right away they played me the song "I See the Light" and I got fully into the role, I think at that moment it suited them. I passed the singing test, then they called me to do the dubbing test, there were 4 scenes which were the discussions with Mother Gothel. I think I was really mad!! Hahaha |
- En 2010, te eligieron para hacer el doblaje de la voz de Rapunzel en Enredados. ¿Cómo fue la audición?Todo empezó porque yo ya me estaba dedicando al doblaje, pero estaba encasillada como cantante, de hecho he protagonizado muchos papeles como tal. Un gran día me avisaron para hacer una audición que no tenía ni idea de qué se trataba, pero hicieron varias pruebas a muchas personas.
Buscaban una voz nueva que interpretara y cantara, me metieron en el reparto de posibles candidatas para el Casting de doblaje porque ya cantaba. Y me eligieron. ¡¡¡No me lo podía creer!!! La audición imaginaos, estaba como un flan, pero enseguida me pusieron la canción “Veo la luz” y me metí de lleno en el papel, creo que en ese momento les encajó. Pasé la prueba cantando, luego me convocaron para hacer la prueba de doblaje, fueron 4 escenas que son las que discuto con Madre Gothel. ¡¡Creo que me enfadé de verdad!! Jajajaja. |
- Can you tell us some anecdotes about the dubbing of this movie? Did you meet the other voice actors and actresses?There was a great rush to finish the project and I was quite scared since it seemed like a very responsible work and a role with a lot of sensitivity and character at the same time, I remember everything in a wonderful nebula full of feelings of all kinds, I got so much into the role, that when i finished making all my takes, I was at home missing Rapunzel, her freshness, her tenderness... the music stand, the excitement... EVERYTHING and what I learned from this such beautiful experience.
Of course I know the other actors and actresses, we are all a team and the work in general has been spectacular. |
- ¿Nos podrías contar alguna anécdota del doblaje de esta película? ¿Pudiste conocer a las demás actrices o actores?
Había mucha prisa por terminar el Proyecto y yo estaba bastante asustada pues me parecía un trabajo de mucha responsabilidad y un papel con mucha sensibilidad y al mismo tiempo con carácter, todo lo recuerdo en una nebulosa maravillosa llena de sentimientos de todo tipo, me metí tanto en el papel, que cuando acabé de hacer todos mis takes estuve en casa echando de menos a Rapunzel, su frescura, ternura… el atril, los nervios… TODO y por lo que aprendí de esta experiencia tan bonita.
Por supuesto que conozco a los demás actores y actrices, somos todos un equipo y el trabajo en general ha sido espectacular. |
- Three years later, you dubbed Anna's singing voice in Frozen. Did you also audition for the speaking voice?
Ooh yes!!! At first, for Frozen, they were not counting on me since my voice was very recent with Rapunzel, they were looking for different voices, as in all Disney's projects.
But one day, I received a call to do the singing audition, the dubbing was already selected, but my surprise was that when I got to the studio, I met five Disney people who came from the USA to watch the casting and make the selection "on the spot". They were still looking for the singing voice, so I remember that when I entered the recording room, they played me the song "Love Is an Open Door", with the lyrics on the music stand. Always in our work, at least in Spain, we go blind, we don't know either what we are going to sing, nor what we are going to dub, we have to do it and learn it on the moment. They were putting the song for me to listen to and at the same time I was singing it to remember it. I ended up singing it entirely, when it was all over and that I got out of there, they directly told me not to leave, to do the rest of the songs. Imagine! The experience of singing for Anna was a gift and something that I always be proud of. |
- Tres años más tarde doblaste la voz cantada de Anna en Frozen. ¿Hiciste también el casting para la voz hablada?Uyyy si!!! En principio para Frozen no contaban conmigo pues mi voz era muy reciente con Rapunzel, buscaban voces diferentes, como en todos los proyectos de Disney.
Pero un día recibí una llamada para hacer la audición cantada, el doblaje ya estaba seleccionado, pero mi sorpresa fue que cuando llegué al estudio, me encontré a cinco personas de Disney que venían de USA para ver el Casting y hacer la selección “in situ”. Seguían buscando la voz cantada, así que recuerdo que al entrar a la sala de grabación me pusieron la canción “La puerta hacia el amor”, con la letra en el atril. Siempre en nuestro trabajo, por lo menos en España, vamos a ciegas, no sabemos ni lo que vamos a cantar ni lo que vamos a doblar, hay que hacerlo y aprenderlo en el momento. Me fueron pasando la canción para que la escuchara y al mismo tiempo iba cantando para retenerla. Terminé por cantarla entera, cuando todo terminó y salí de allí, directamente me dijeron que no me marchara, que hiciera el resto de las canciones ¡Imaginaos! La experiencia cantando a Anna fue un regalo y algo de lo que siempre me sentiré orgullosa. |
- You also dubbed the speaking voice of Darling in the Disney+'s remake of Lady and the Tramp. Did you also audition for the singing voice?Yes! I did the audition for the singing voice, but this time it was the opposite, they found my voice more suiting for Darling in the speaking parts than in the singing. Even so, for me it's always a pleasure and a pride to work for Disney, that they trust my work in any way. It's art.

- También doblaste la voz hablada de Linda en el remake de La dama y el vagabundo de Disney+. ¿También hiciste el casting para la voz cantada?Si! Hice el casting para la voz cantada, pero ésta vez fue al contrario, les encajó más mi voz en Linda para el doblaje y no la canción. Aun así, para mí siempre es un placer y un orgullo trabajar para Disney, que confíen en mi trabajo de cualquiera de las formas. Es Arte.

- Do you change your voice when dubbing Anna and Rapunzel?Both their voices are similar in certain musical notes and nuances. I do not change my voice for either of them, but I play with the interpretation and nuances that each one gives me, which are wonderful and it is what really helps me to be able to stick to the character and differentiate them in some way.

- ¿Cambias la voz cuando haces de Anna y de Rapunzel?
Las voces de ambas son similares en ciertas notas musicales y matices. Yo no cambio la voz en ninguna de las dos, pero juego con la interpretación y los matices que me da cada una, que son maravillosos y es lo que realmente me ayuda para poder pegarme al personaje y a diferenciarlos de algún modo.

- Do you prefer dubbing Anna or Rapunzel?If I have to choose between Anna and Rapunzel, I'll go with Rapunzel without doubt, even though I love both, they are precious and wonderful, but when you play a character completely (speaking and singing) like for Rapunzel, it brings you much more and you can identify more with the character.

- ¿A quién prefieres interpretar? ¿A Anna o a Rapunzel?Si me dais a elegir entre Anna o Rapunzel, me quedo con Rapunzel sin duda, aunque amo a las dos, son preciosas y maravillosas, pero cuando haces un personaje completo (hablado y cantado) en el caso de Rapunzel, te aporta mucho más y te identificas más con él.

- Did you audition for other Disney roles that you did not get eventually?They didn't present me any role that I have not interpreted, because there are many of us who dedicate ourselves to this and it's a real gift to be chosen in the end, that is why the auditions are each time more closed and give opportunities to new voices, to not always sound the same.

- ¿Te has presentado para otros papeles para Disney que al final no interpretaste?No me he presentado a ningún papel que luego no haya interpretado, porque somos muchas las personas que nos dedicamos a esto y es un verdadero regalo que al final se decidan por ti, por eso los castings son cada vez más cerrados y dan oportunidades a nuevas voces para no sonar siempre las mismas.

- When they give you a song in English to dub it into Spanish, how do you work it?When I'm going to sing for a character, as I mentioned before, they give everything to me at the moment, the lyrics, the adaptation, the music... you have to learn it in the room with the Musical Director, I take this opportunity to mention Jacobo Calderón, who directed me in "Frozen", "Frozen II" and "Tangled", he is a great professional and a great person.
They are passing the song to you with the image so that you can learn their gestures, nuances, situation... you have to sing without forgetting to fit the text into the character, in the mouth as the dubbing actors say, as I have already told you, I base myself on that, on getting inside the character, if she cries, then I cry, although then you have to sing!!! There are resources to do it and not go out of tune hahaha. |
- Cuando te dan una canción en inglés para doblarla al español ¿Cómo la trabajas?Cuando voy a cantar un personaje, como os he mencionado antes, todo me lo dan al momento, la letra, la adaptación, la música… hay que aprendérselo en sala con el Director Musical, aprovecho para nombrar a Jacobo Calderón, que me dirigió en "Frozen", "Frozen II" y "Enredados", es un gran profesional y una gran persona.
Te van pasando la canción con la imágen para que te aprendas sus gestos, matices, situación… hay que cantar sin olvidarse de encajar el texto en el personaje, en boca como decimos los actores de doblaje, como ya os he contado antes, yo me baso en eso, en meterme dentro del personaje, si llora, pues lloro, aunque luego hay que cantar!!! Hay recursos para hacerlo y no desafinar jajajaja. |

- What is your favourite song of all the dubbings you have done?
It's difficult for me to choose one song from all the ones I've sung. They are all beautiful!!! You make it very complicated for me, but can I go with two? From Rapunzel "I See the Light" and from Anna "The Next Right Thing".

- ¿Cuál es tu canción preferida de todos los doblajes que has hecho?Es difícil para mí elegir una canción de todas las que he cantado. ¡¡¡Todas son preciosas!!! Me lo ponéis muy complicado, pero ¿me puedo quedar con dos? De Rapunzel “Veo en ti la luz” y de Anna “Hacer las cosas bien”.

- How did you work the song "The Next Right Thing"?When i came to the room to sing this song, they did not explain much more to me than what it was for Anna before and after in the whole movie. I went directly to the music stand to listen to it through headphones with the image on the monitor of the room. I don't know how, but I saw her in that cave, crying and desolated but at the same time, with strength. My voice is not very powerful, but I play with the interpretation and the look of the characters. Here, Anna helped me a lot, because I stepped in her shoes easily. The song is spectacular, a work of art. I felt like I was on stage, in a Musical. I have to admit that I have a lot of Musical retention thanks to years of experience and that is a very good resource when you get to the room and learn it at that very moment. There were not many takes, I think there were 2 and some adjustments because of a change of lyrics.

- ¿Cómo trabajaste la canción "Hacer las cosas bien"?Cuando llegué a sala a cantar esta canción no me explicaron mucho más que para Anna iba a ser un antes y un después en toda la película. Pasé directamente al atril para escucharla por cascos con la imagen que hay en el monitor de la sala. No se cómo, pero la vi en la cueva, llorando y desolada pero al mismo tiempo con fuerza. Mi voz no es muy potente pero juego con la interpretación y la cara de los personajes. Aquí Anna me ayudó muchísimo porque entré en ella fácilmente. La canción es espectacular, una obra de arte. Sentía que me encontraba dentro de un escenario, de un Musical. He de reconocer que tengo bastante retentiva musical por años de experiencia y ese es un recurso muy bueno para llegar a sala y aprendértelo en ese mismo instante. No fueron muchas tomas, creo que fueron 2 y algunos retoques por cambio en la letra.

- What other character would you have liked to dub?Pascal hahaha, just kidding, I'll stay with Rapunzel forever.

- ¿Qué otro personaje te hubiese gustado doblar?A Pascal jajajajaja, es broma, con Rapunzel me quedaría para toda la vida.

- Have you ever heard the songs of Anna or Rapunzel in Latin American Spanish? Or in any other language?At the moment, I have been listening to Mandy Moore as Rapunzel and her work looks incredible to me. I will listen to the rest of the colleagues from other countries, I really want to.

- ¿Has escuchado las canciones de Anna o de Rapunzel en la versión latinoamericana? ¿O en otros idiomas?Por el momento he estado escuchando a Mandy Moore en Rapunzel y me parece increíble su trabajo. Iré escuchando al resto de las compañeras de otros países, tengo muchísimas ganas.

- Apart from dubbing, what else do you currently do?
Apart from the dubbing, in my spare time, I like to write stories, I narrate and sing them for the little children and from there, a very cool Musical Therapy project was born, that I will launch when the sad situation we are currently living ends.
Furthermore, I conduct workshops as a vocal coach and/or Musical Director for dubbing songs at a private level and/or in small groups. |
- Aparte del doblaje, ¿qué otros trabajos realizas actualmente?A parte del doblaje en mis ratos libres me gusta escribir cuentos, los narro y los canto para los más pequeños y de ahí nació un Proyecto de Musicoterapia muy chulo que pondré en marcha cuando acabe la triste situación que estamos viviendo actualmente.
Por otro lado, imparto talleres como coach vocal y/o directora musical para canciones de doblaje a nivel particular y/o en grupos reducidos. |
